4th & 5th Grade

Nicole Elias

Keystone’s 4th/5th grade classroom is the final step in preparation for a Keystone Kid’s final launch to Middle School. Keystone believes that after experiencing the full Keystone experience of 3-y-o through 5th grade, our kids are ready for more. A Growth Mindset approach is used in balancing the social, emotional, and academic needs of Keystone’s 4th/5th grade students. This balance leans towards preparing them to step into a middle school environment.

As a 4th/5th grade student, they also transition into becoming the leaders of the school through their interactions with the younger students and are often seen helping them in all areas. Whether leading them in a project, or assisting them in their social needs, Keystone 4th/5th graders are revered by the younger kids for their leadership abilities.

During a student’s 4th/5th grade experience, they encounter more research-based learning with an intentional focus on their academic learning. We will use many methods from multi-disciplinary approaches to expand the core subjects and areas of individual and group interest. These methods might include: games, skill training, hands-on discovery, reflection, re-approach, failure, music, field trips, cooking, physical education, and tons of practice. Research-based online curriculum is used to assess student levels in all subjects, as well as other assessments to identify individual needs. These assessments allow for diversified instruction to be set up to keep them moving forward in their academic learning. This ensures that each student is ready to enter whichever learning environment supports their needs when leaving Keystone.

We are truly committed to preparing our children to be confident, excited, and ready to go to middle school. It is a very important part of our jobs to attend to each of these learners by helping them move steadily and progressively forward in their education journey. Helping our 4th/5th grade children manage their time, expectations, goals, disappointments, and anxieties will fortify and prepare them for what’s next.
